Geboren 19 maart 1740 te Leens, zoon van schoolmeester Willem Alberts Wolthuis en Grietje Onnes. Hij trouwde op 23 mei 1768 te Leens met Anna Hoexum, geboren op 11 oktober 1749 te Nieuweschans, overleden op 3 februari 1805 te Wetsinge, dochter van Eyben (Eibenius) Hoexum, sous-lieutenant in het regiment van luitenant-generaal Veldtman, en Etje Boneschans; achterkleindochter van Eyben Hoecksum, predikant te Krewerd (1683-1706) en Mensingeweer (1706 - † 20 augustus 1727) en Beatrix Treccius; zij hertrouwde op 6 juli 1787 te Leens met Freerk Freerks de Vries (van Zuidlaren), wedman te Sauwerd.
