    Geert Jans (Hoitinge) en Aaltjen Jacobs waren de stamouders van de familie Hoiting (Huiting) in Hoogkerk. Geert Jans bewoonde daar de boerderij Hoiting(e), ook genoemd Hoitumheerd. De streek waar deze boerderij staat, wordt ook wel aangeduid als Hoitinge.

    Hoitum of Hoitinge bestaat eigenlijk uit 2 plaatsen (= boerderijen), die het eerst beschreven worden in het „Staatboek van alle opkomsten en zwarigheden" van het Heilige Geest gasthuis, in het jaar 1595.
