    Heinrichs oudste zoon Samuel was ertoe voorbestemd zijn vader op te volgen. de andere twee zonen, Johannes en Chrstian, werden tot schoenmaker en kleermaker opgeleid. Christian, de vader van onze Samuel Müller, is waarschijnlijk reizend als handwerksgezel naar Krefeld gekomen, waar hij zich blijkens zijn gemeentelijke attestatie in 1776 als dameskleermaker vestigde.

    Christian Müller had van zijn kleermakerij een niet onsuccesvol bedrijfje gemaakt. Rond 1785 was het huis met tuin aan de Königsstrasse, de tweede hoofdstraat te Krefeld, waar Samuel zijn vroegste jeugd doorbracht, zijn eigendom. Het huis was groot genoeg om, behalve het gezin Müller, de naar toen heersend gebruik inwonende gezellen te herbergen. Enkele jaren later was er bovendien geld om nog een nieuw achterhuis te bouwen. Naast de kleermakerij dreef Christian een bescheiden handeltje in wijn.
