Wanneer hij op 7 februari 1828 overlijdt, 72 jaar oud, heet hij in Oterdum te zijn geboren. Zijn doop op 19 oktober 1755 is echter in Loppersum geregistreerd. Hij trouwde met Geertje Geukes, weduwe van Jacob Reerts. De rechterlijke protocollen doen wel begrijpen, dat "Nienhuis" de ouderlijke boerderij van Jacob Reerts is geweest, die zijn weduwe aan zich heeft kunnen houden en ten tweeden huwelijk meebrengen .
