Het echtpaar krijgt drie zoons: Kornelis (geboren in 1880 en overleden in 1897), Gaaike Egbert (geboren in 1886 en overleden in 1958) en Jakob Jacobus Klaas (geboren in 1889 en overleden in 1957). In 1897, elf jaar na de geboorte van Gaaike, sterven zijn moeder en oudere broer aan tbc. Dan komt er een huishoudster in huis bij Albert en zijn twee overgebleven zoons.
