    SAAGMANS (Aeschinus of Aesge), geb. te Leeuwarden 29 Aug. 1672, overl. te Akkrum 24 Aug. 1739, liet zich in Juli 1688 inschrijven als student te Franeker, was een leerling van prof. Röell, en promoveerde 15 Oct. 1694 op een Dissertatio de dubitatione. Hij was predikant te Akkrum c.a. (1695-1704) en Franeker (1704) tot zijn dood. Hem is door de Gedeputeerde staten van Friesland op 10 April 1731 geaccordeerd 's jaars 100 gl. voor het onderwijs in de grondstukken van de christelijke religie aan de studenten. Van hem verschenen een paar vraagboekjes ten dienste van het catechetisch onderwijs, door hem samengesteld met Ds. A. Landreben, getiteld: Korte Vragen en Eerste gronden van de zaligmakende leer (1710). Hij behoorde tot de flinkste en bekwaamste predikanten van Friesland.
