    In Zofingen, in het Berner Oberland, werd in 1655 Abraham Laufer geboren als zoon van Johann Laufer. Hij werd zadelmaker en trouwde met Johanna Harder. Uit dit huwelijk werden, naar bekend 8 kinderen geboren . Van twee er van is duidelijk dat zij de Doopsgezinde beginselen waren toegedaan en als gevolg daarvan zich bevonden onder de vluchtelingen die in 1711 over de Rijn vanaf Basel naar Nederland komen. Het betreft hier de zonen Abraham (junior) en David. Met hen start in Nederland deze familie Laufer, met diverse naamsvarianten.

    Abraham Laufer (de oude), geboren ca. 1655 in Zofingen, overleden na 1715 in Zofingen. Als beroep was hij zadelmaker, in 1680 daarvan gildemeester. Voorts was hij ook stadskoerier tussen Zofingen in het Berner Oberland en Bern. Hij trouwt met Johanna Harder, die in 1730 overlijdt.
