    Samuel Knottnerus te Böhmerwold had zijn gemeente misschien verwaarloosd, zijn kinderen kon hij niettemin een goede opleiding geven. De oudste zoon Hinricus (1704-1762) werd predikant te Hamswehrum, Johannes (1714-1783) kwam terecht in Jarssum (later Campen en Uttum), terwijl Cornelius (1718-1779) pas op oudere leeftijd een beroep naar Landschaftspolder aannam. Vermoedelijk was hij echter al langer werkzaam in deze polder, waar zich tientallen rijke boeren uit Bunde hadden gevestigd. Later vertrok hij naar Harkstede in het Groningerland. Zuster Gesyna huwde een minder voorname vakgenoot: Willem van Laer in het dorpje Gandersum.
