    De boerderij “Ewkema” te Bovenhuizen dankt zijn naam aan het geslacht Ewkema, waarvan weinig bekend is. Er lag een overrecht op de heerd, staande en gelegen in het Westerende van Oprijp, ten oosten van Elamaheerd, nr. 165. In 1482 is Focke Ewkema medestichter van de Sint Catharina-prebende te Uithuizen, zie nr. 174. Hij kan op Ewkema hebben gewoond.
