Baron Hastings, 13th Baron Bergavenny

Son of Henry de Hastings and Joan de Cantelou / Cantilupe, grandson of Sir Henry de Hastings and Ada of Huntingdon, William de Cauntelo and Eve de Braose.

Firstly, husband of Isabel de Valence, daughter of William de Valence, Earl of Pembroke. they were married in 1275 and had six children:
* Elizabeth de Hastings, wife of Sir Roger Grey
* William de Hastings, married Eleanor Martin
* Joan de Hastings, wife of William de Huntyngfield
* John de Hastings, 2nd Lord Hastings
* Henry de Hastings
* Margaret de Hastings

Secondly, he was the husband of Isabel le Despenser, daughter of Hugh le Despenser, 1st and last Earl of Winchester and Isabella de Beauchamp. They married before 1308 and had three children:
* Thomas de Hastings
* Margaret Hastings, wife of Robert de Waterville.
* Sir Hugh de Hastings

John Hastings was summoned to Parliament as Lord Hastings on 23 June 1295. He received the title of Baron Bergavenny at the death of his uncle, George de Cantilupe in 1273, and inherited Abergavenny Castle as well as the honor of Abergavenny. John participated in the wars of King Edward I in Scotland, Ireland and France, appointed to Seneschal of Aquitaine.

His attempt to claim the Scottish throne as the grandson of Ada, third daughter of David, Earl of Huntingdon who was the grandson of King David of Scotland was unsuccessful.

Possibly buried at Greyfriars Coventry. This memorial was created by someone else, his burial is not firm.
