Notes about Geessien Aljes DOORNBOS

’t Nijkerkje is in 1846 gebouwd als eenvoudige waterstaatskerk. De reden was het gereedkomen van de Oostpolder, waardoor een grote groep kerkgangers erg lang onderweg was naar de kerk van Uithuizermeeden. Omdat het niet haalbaar was zowel een kerk in Roodeschool als in Oudeschip te bouwen, werd het gebouw tussen die beide dorpen in geprojecteerd.
Oosteinde werd vroeger ook wel 'Nieuwkerkje' of 'Nijkerkje' genoemd. Omdat de kerk in Uithuizermeeden de ‘oude’ kerk was, werd die aan de Radsweg het Nijkerkje genoemd. Het dorp Oosteinde heette tot het midden van de twintigste eeuw daarom ook Niekerkje of Nieuwkerkje.
