    Johanna en Harm werden het slachtoffer van de gewelddadige overval, die nog steeds verteld wordt als de moord op de Rollecate. In het voorjaar van 1905 had Harm een koe verkocht en daarvoor uiteraard geld gebeurd. Dit moet een onverlaat geweten hebben: hij drong de boerderij binnen en sloeg toe. Op de morgen van dinsdag 25 april 1905 trof men Harm dood aan, vermoord, en zijn zuster Johanna zwaar gewond. De politie werd gealarmeerd en kon niet anders dan een brute roofoverval constateren met minstens een slachtofler. Drie dagen later deden Hendrik Reinders, wachtmeester der koninklijke Marechaussee te Ambt Vollenhove, en Jan Krol, gemeente-veldwachter te Stad Vollenhove, aangifte dat op 25 april 1905 om half negen in de morgen Harmde Vries was overleden (dit zal het tijdstip van de ontdekking van de moord zijn). Wie was de dader of waren de daders? Johanna leefde nog en prevelde een naam, helaas onverstaanbaar. Op 30 april, dus 5 dagen later bezweek zij aan haar verwondingenv env werd de dag daarop aangegeven door Jannes Ziel, bierhuishouder te Ambt Vollenhove en Johannes Roskamp, brigadier der koninklijke Marechaussee te Ambt Vollenhove. Wie met de geprevelde naam bedoeld werd (een bekende?) is nooit aan het lichtgekomen.
