Notes about Hendrik Pieters Mondriaan

Bij de geboorte van Hendrik wonen zijn ouders te Vollenhove, maar verblijven dan tijdelijk te Heerenveen. De vader is beroepshalve afwezig en kan daarom zelf geen aangifte doen.
Hendrik en Nelligje trouwen pro Deo en met certificaat van onvermogen. De bruidegom woont in Vollenhove en de bruid woonde tot zes maanden voor het huwelijk in Zwartsluis. De voogd van de bruid is Hendrik Redder, scheepstimmerman te Zwartsluis en de toeziende voogd is Albert Lassche, landbouwer te Ambt Vollenhove, beiden op 9 december 1890 als zodanig aangesteld door het kantongerecht in Zwolle.
Tot in het begin van het huwelijk was Hendrik vissersknecht, later werd hij veldwachter te Zalk waar hij toen ook woonde. Hij was daar een markant figuur die in zijn uniform en zijn martiale snor op een iedereen geweldige indruk maakte. Onlangs (12-3-1994) werd in de Zwolse Courant nog het volgende over hem geschreven: 'In 1926 brak op 5 januari de vechtdijk bij Dalfsen door. Nauwelijks drie etmalen later volgde de IJsseldijk bij Zalk. Door de hoge waterstand was er al een scheur zichtbaar.Opeens kolkte het water door een gapende kloof van 35 meter de polder in. Niemand verdronk, maar zo'n beetje heel Zalk was dakloos. De mensen werden naar Kampen getransporteerd en naar Zwolle, waar ze onder meer in Buitensociëteit mochten slapen. Een heldenrol was er voorde bejaarde gemeente-veldwachter Mondriaan, die iedereen hielp. Z'n eigen gezin als laatste. Tijdens het koninklijk bezoek mocht hij met gepoetste knopen en bijgewerkte snorrepunten de vorstin hoogstpersoonlijk de hand schudden.Wilhelmina droeg bij deze gelegenheid overigens een soort motormuts van bont. Het was op z'n brede kop te lezen dat hij zich meer dan ooit Koning van Zalk voelde, wat hij na het onderhoud met de koningin liet blijken door de hoogste autoriteiten vrijmoedig aan te spreken.'
