    Hij viste op de schuit VN129, later op de VN29 en was medeeigenaar van de VN51, bedoeld voor de ansjovisvangst. Hij zat in het RK Kerkbestuur. Zijn vrouw was Jacobje Mossel (bijgenaamd Joapikenmeuje). Ze hadden zelf geen kinderen, maar hebben twee kinderen grootgebracht van zijn overleden zuster Maria Kwakman (1884-1920), die gehuwd was met Bruin Klappe (de Klosse, 1880-1944) uit Kampen. Hij was één van die vissers met Schokker ‘roots’ die de Schokker dracht trouw bleven.
    Hij woonde in het Schokker buurtje tussen Aan Zee en het Kalverenbosch in Vollenhove.
