Jurriaen Ariaensz de Vos was betrokken in de Steenwijker conflicten rond1750 die bekend zijn geworden als de "Plooierijen". Feitelijk was het een strijd tussen de heersende klasse van regenten-families en de protestantse burgerbeweging die ook hun kans wilde krijgen. Soms ook werd het geschil gezien als een strijd van Oranje-gezinde protestanten tegen de heersende klasse van overwegend katholieke magistraten die weer grip wilden krijgen op de invloed van de kerk op het maatschappelijke en politieke leven. Jurriaen Ariaens de Vos was lid van een door burgemeester Ram opgerichte Compagnie (burgerwacht), die op 16 november 1748 probeerde Harmen Coops Fledderus aan te houden. Harmen Coops wist echter, nadat hij de nodige klappen had gekregen, te ontkomen. Op maandag 2 december 1748 werd Harmen Coops Fledderus in alle vroegte van zijn bed gelicht, en tot zijn verrassing, gearresteerd. Enkele dagen later werd Harmen Coops Fledderus snel veroordeeld en opgehangen.
