Jan is erkend bij het huwelijk van zijn ouders.
Hij was lid van de NSB.
Jan overleed ten gevolge van een auto-ongeluk: ·ÄúEen auto vol NSB-ers keerde van het aardappelrooien op de Eeskamp huiswaarts. In de bocht bij de Ruiterweg te Havelterweg verloor de chauffeur de macht over het stuur, wat tot gevolg had, dat de auto met een hevige slag tegen een boom op botste, waardoor de boom finaal afknapte. De gevolgen waren verschrikkelijk. Al spoedig bleek dat een 12-tal NSB-ers ernstig gewond waren. (...) Wapstra werd vervoerd naar het ziekenhuis te Meppel·Äù Bron: De Heerenveensche Courier 15-10-1945.
Blijkbaar is hij daar nog diezelfde avond overleden.
