·ÄúHendrik had geen eigen schip hij was in loondienst bij van der Leij. Het schip zou de "Piet Hein" hebben geheten. Hij voer als beurt schipper van Steenwijk naar Amsterdam. Elke week, begin van de week vertrek uit Steenwijk, einde van de week terug vanuit Amsterdam naar Steenwijk. Men bracht zelf de goederen rond in Amsterdam en haalde goederen voor Steenwijk op. Hendrik verhuist op 19 januari 1920 naar Willemsoord, waar hij gaat wonen bij zijn dochter Jansje.
·ÄúHendrik verbleef vanaf de tijd dat hij geen huis meer had 's winter bij Jansje en Johannes in Willemsoord. 's zomer verbleef hij steeds voor ongeveer een maand bij Hil, Willem, Gerrie en Klaas. ·Äú (Bron Hans Groen, email september 2016).
