Notes about Andries Hofman

Andries was koperslager; voor de oorlog had hij een loodgieter en leidekkerbedrijf. In de oorlog weigerde hij voor de bezetter te werken. Nadat hij een keer gedwongen werd (er wordt verteld met een geweer in zijn rug), heeft hij al zijn gereedschap in de grond begraven, met de opmerking "nu kunnen ze me niet meer dwingen”. Na de oorlog bleek alles vergaan te zijn en na nog een paar tegenslagen ging de zaak failliet. Kort daarna is hij aan een slepende ziekte overleden. Geert Reinders Talen was turfschipper van beroep. De gemeente Ængwirden was door de turf een rijke gemeente en had voor de bewoners een reeks van voorzieningen.
