    Text

"When I used to visit my father at the Holland Home, and especially when he visited me, we often talked about our ancestors. He told me about two Gennekens, the elder of them founded a lumber business in Kralingen, a suburb of Rotterdam on the Maas River. The second Genneken, his son, took over the business when his father died. They imported logs in Germany and formed the logs into rafts and floated them down the Rhine and Maas Rivers to their sawmill to be cut and shaped according to plans and specifications by their customers, the shipbuilders. The business flourished for a large part of the 18th century..."
