Warden of the East and West Marches towards Scotland from 1434 to 1435
Commissioner to treat for peace with France in the Hundred Years Warin 1436.

He was invested as a Knight, Order of the Garter (K.G.) in 1436
He was invested as a Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1437

He held the offices of:
Keeper of the forest beyond Trent in 1443
Governor of Barnard Castle in 1446
Joint Keeper of the West March in 1453
Keeper of Porchester Castle in 1454
Chancellor of England in 1454

He fought in the Battle of St Albans in 1455
He was the leading Yorkist in the early years of the War of the Roses
In November 1459 he was attainted.2 On 7 October 1460 he was pardoned

He held the office of Lord Great Chamberlain on 29 October 1460, forlife
Yorkist leader during the early parts of the Wars of the Roses. He was the son of Ralph Neville, 1st Earl of Westmorland, by his secondwife, Joan Beaufort, a daughter of John of Gaunt. Despite being ayounger son, he was able to make a great marriage, to Alice Montagu,Countess of Salisbury, probably due to his royal descent on hismother's side. After his marriage (1420) Salisbury was given highposts in the north of England, including Warden of the Western March1420 - 1435. He was also Constable at the coronation of his cousinHenry VI. However Salisbury turned to the cause of the Duke of York,fighting on that side at the First Battle of St Albans and at BloreHeath. He was beheaded the day after the Battle of Wakefield.
