General Notes: It has been said that the history of the Kingsford family dates back to the time of the English King, John the Usurper. King John of England reigned from 6 April 1199 until 19 October 1216.One story is that late one night King John and some of his subjects came to the brink of a rapid stream. With no means of passage at hand King John was borne over (forded) the stream on the shoulders of a stalwart subject. As a result thereafter the title for that stalwart subject was "The King's Ford".
