Tenente-coronel Carlos José Botelho casou-se em 1824 em Piracicaba com Candida Maria do Rosario, f.ª do tenente José Joaquim de Sampaio e de Maria Jacintha da Natividade, n. p. de Manoel da Costa Ferreira e de Anna Jacintha Pereira do Lago, n. m. de João Corrêa da Silva, de Portugal, e de Angela Coelho Duarte, esta f.ª do coronel João Coelho Duarte, do Porto, e de Maria de Medella, da Cotia. Tit. Macieis.

Candida Maria do Rosario era irmã de Joaquim José de Sampaio, casado em 1818 em Piracicaba com Gertrudes Theresa de Camargo, f.ª do capitão Filippe Nery Teixeira e de Maria Leite de Camargo; era irmã, por pai, de Luiz Caetano de Sampaio, casado em 1818 em Piracicaba com Anna Teixeira de Camargo, f.ª do dito capitão Filippe Nery; era prima irmã de João Corrêa da Silva, natural da Conceição dos Guarulhos, que casou-se em 1820 em Atibaia com Gertrudes Luiza Sodré, que são o tronco dos Correas da Silva de Araraquara, Tit. Godoys.
Carlos José Botelho foi proprietário da sesmaria do "Pinhal", hoje dividida entre seus f.ºs, e foi o fundador de S. Carlos do Pinhal; residiu em Araraquara

Descendente de comerciantes portugueses, vindos ao Brasil no século XVI, Bento de Abreu Sampaio Vidal nasceu em Campinas em 17 de agosto de 1872, fruto do segundo casamento de Joaquim José de Abreu Sampaio com Maria das Dores Sampaio Vidal. Estudou no tradicional Colégio "Culto à Ciência", formando-se no curso de humanidades. Era membro de uma extensa família de comerciantes, banqueiros e cafeicultores, ligada à política estadual e nacional.
Durante o Império, seu pai ocupou os cargos de juiz de paz, deputado provincial e chefe do Partido Conservador. Como deputado, dedicou-se à construção da ligação férrea entre Rio Claro e Araraquara. Joaquim José casou-se, em 1854, com D. Eulália Carolina Meira, filha do Tenente Coronel Carlos José Botelho e iniciou sua lavoura cafeeira ao comprar a Fazenda São Joaquim na Sesmaria do Pinhal. Foi um dos fundadores de São Carlos, juntamente com o Conde do Pinhal, seu cunhado.
