Casou com Mariana Claudina de Jesus, filha de Escolástica Maria do Bom Sucesso e seu segundo marido Domingos Pereira de Carvalho, neta paterna de João Pereira de Carvalho e Ana Maria do Nascimento (Familia Diogo Garcia), neta materna de Bernardo Gonçalves Chaves e Francisca Maria de Mendonça -família "Amaro de Mendonça Coelho" Cap. 3º.

Joaquim e Mariana moraram em Carrancas onde nasceram filhos e onde deixaram geração. Com a exaustão dos veios auríferos e estagnação da economia do chamado ciclo do ouro, a família migrou para o Vale do Paraíba Fluminense, como outros importantes grupos familiares do sul de Minas, ocupando a região com a formação de fazendas de café e dando inicio a um novo ciclo econômico.

Em um primeiro momento, filhos e filhas dessas famílias casaram entre sí e assim também os Alves Carrijo se mesclaram com as principais famílias da região, quase todas também advindas das Minas Gerais. Posteriormente, com as famílias entrelaçadas, vieram os inevitáveis casamentos endogamicos, regra geral nas gerações subsequentes da região. Assim foi que descendentes das irmãs Joana, Maria Claudina e (Maria) Candida, (filhas de Joaquim Alves Carrijo) precisaram pedir e obter dispensas do impedimento de consanguinidade para se casar (resumos neste site, em Outros Locais).
