Lutou com bravura nas guerras contra os holandeses, tendo estado com seu irmão João Baptista nas duas batalhas dos Guararapes. Esteve tambem na capitulação dos belgas, na campina da Taborda, em 27.1.1654. Foi comendador das ordens de S. Miguel da Ribeira e de Cristo, e alcaide– mor hereditario de Olinda. Coronel das ordenanc ¸as at ´e 1681,torna– se mestre de campo do terc ¸o da praça de Pernambuco`aquele ano, e neste posto conservou– se at ´e a morte, em 1697.
