Nomeia a logradouros em Fortaleza, no Ceará, e na Ilha de Paquetá, no Rio de Janeiro.

Ajudou a criar o Teatro São João , em Sobral no Ceará. Patrono de cadeira da Academia Cearense de Letras.Autor do romance "Luzia Homem", publicado em 1904, um dos clássicos romances realistas da literatura em língua portuguesa, um dos primeiros a retratar o drama da sêca, no Nordeste do Brasil, (1877), o feminismo, o assédio moral e sexual sobre as trabalhadoras, e as migrações de populações flageladas, que inspirou, livremente, o roteiro de um filme, com o mesmo título.

Formado em Direito, no Recife, Pernambuco, Brazil. Retornou a Sobral onde nasceu, onde foi promotor de justiça, e ajudou a criar o Teatro São João. Mudou-se, por diferenças políticas com a família Accioly, para Belém do Pará, onde se elegeu Deputado Provincial e trabalhou, como jornalista.

Nova mudança para o Rio, onde trabalhou como diplomata, secretariando o Barão do Rio Branco, em missão a Washington, onde se decidiu os limites geográficos do Brasil com a França (Estado do Amapá e Guiana Francesa), quando nasceram seus filhos (minha avó) Martha, e (meu tio avô) Baby.

Fundou e dirigiu o periódico "Os Annaes", em que publicou, na Editora do mesmo nome, como novela a obra acima e outras, além de artigos em que colaboraram Evaristo de Moraes, Dionísio Cerqueira, Coelho Netto e muitos outros. Deixou numerosa descendência.

Advogou para vários clientes, entre eles o Estado do Amazonas as Loterias do Rio de Janeiro. Morreu jovem, está sepultado no cemitério S. João Batista, no Rio.
