Notes about Sérgio Buarque de Holanda Historiador e Sociologo

Advogado, escritor, professor e crítico literário. Intelectual dos
mais respeitados dentro e fora do Brasil, com várias obras publicadas,
podendo ser citadas as seguintes: Monções, Raízes do Brasil, Cobra de
Vidro, Visão do Paraíso, O Extremo Oeste e Caminhos e Fronteira. Foi
coordenador da coleção História Geral da Civilização Brasileira até o
oitavo volume. É apontado como pioneiro na interpretação da psicologia
coletiva do brasileiro, aspecto já salientado em Raízes do Brasil, seu
primeiro livro.

Em 1946 foi nomeado Diretor do Museu do Ipiranga em São Paulo. Em 1953,
muda-se com a família para a Itália, por ter sido convidado a lecionar na
Universidade de Roma.

Lecionou na USP e na Escola de Sociologia e Política, em São Paulo (SP).
Manteve, ainda, atividades na Imprensa, tendo publicado a revista
estética, ao lado de grandes figuras. Desenvolveu atividades constantes
no exterior, como professor de universidades, conferencista e organizador
de seminários, tendo sido, també, correspondente dos Diários Associados
na Alemanha. Foi redator-chefe da Associated Press, agência de notícias
norte-americana. Foi membro da Academia Paulista de Letras.

Segundo declaração de seu filho Chico Buarque de Holanda, transmitida a
1º de novembro de 1998, pela TV Globo, no programa Fantástico, é possível
que tenha nascido na Alemanha um outro filho de Sérgio Buarque, resultado
de relacionamento ocorrido quando o ilustre brasileiro ainda era solteiro..
