Resumo: Traços biográficos do Coronel José Barbosa Ferraz, um dos mais influentes cidadãos na sociedade piracicabana das primeiras décadas do Século XX.
Legou a Piracicaba dois magníficos edifícios que idealizou e fez construir: o "Palacete Barbosa", destinado à sede do Clube Piracicabano ao qual pertencia, e o Teatro São José, considerado, na época, a maior casa de espetáculos do interior paulista. Após a sua morte, os membros do clube adquiriram os dois edifícios à viúva, Carolina Silveira Mello. O Clube passou a denominar-se "Coronel Barbosa", em homenagem ao seu idealizador. O teatro, por sua vez, foi transformado em salão de bailes e eventos do próprio clube. Esses edifícios servem à cidade até os dias atuais. Tombados pelo município, constituem parte da história social e cultural da cidade, um testemunho do ciclo áureo do florescimento das artes em Piracicaba.
