NotesPgs. 14-17 Phillip was an early settler of Salford Township (New Goshenhoppen region) Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania, emigrating from their home in Germany, sailing from Rotterdam, Holland thence from Cowes, England on June 20 1727 arriving at the port of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in the ship "Friendship" on October 6, 1727. An Act of Parliament naturalizing foreign Protestants required them to appear at a Supreme Court held in Philadelphia for the Province of Pennsylvania. Phillip Reed and neighbors did this on 24 September 1741 and became natural-born Subjects of Great Britain. Pg. 18 Land Records show Phillip Reed owned lands and paid quit rent in Salford Township as early as 1734. Pg. 20 He sympathized with the Cause during the Revolution, lent his aid and influence, encouraged, and contributed of his means for its support. All his sons and sons-in-law except Valentine Dickenschied participated actively in the Revolution. Son Jacob writes the following in his Bible, "1783, Sept. 3 Phillipp Riedt, my father, died. His funeral text, Johannes II Chapt., Verses 25:26. Aged 85 years, 7 mos. 9 days." Tombstone, a quaint old moss-covered marble slab marks his grave in the New Goshenhoppen Reformed Church cemetery. The inscription is in German. There is also a more modern monument for Philip and Vernica. Less
