If considering a merger, please keep this profile as the surviving one (left side). Hepsibah was the daughter of Joseph Andrews and Elizabeth (unknown). Her birth in Hingham, Massachusetts Bay Colony, was not recorded but is estimated to be about 1644. A little known fact is that in 1659 Hepsibah sued Richard French for rape; she did not appear for the hearings due to illness and it is not known whether she bore a child. If she did, it may have been Mary, as Mary is believed to be the youngest child and her name does not follow traditional naming patterns. However Jeffrey is named as her father on her marriage records. Hepsibah's father Joseph relocated the family to Duxbury for a period, and it may have been there that Hepsibah married Jeffrey Manning, who by that time had completed his indenture to Captain John Cutting of Charles Town in the Massachusetts Bay Colony. It is believed that their first three children, Mary, John (named for Jeffrey's father), and Elizabeth (named for both their mothers) were born in Massachusetts. The births of Joseph, James, and Benjamin are recorded in Piscataway, starting in 1672. Jeffrey took the Dutch oath in Piscataway in 1673 and Piscataway land is recorded in his name in 1675. In 1679 Hepsibah's father Joseph died and bequeathed land in New Jersey to his son Ephraim, who was also living there. In 1692/3 Jeffrey died. His will provided for Hepsibah and named her executor. In 1694/5 letters of administration were issued to Hepsibah. 22 Jan 1696 Hepzibah Manning, midwife, was present at birth of Samuel FitzRandolph. 6 Aug 1698 Hypsibah Mannin, Edward Slater and Mary Mack Daniel were witnesses to the will of Walter Robinson. Hepsibah died at an unknown time after this last date.
