Notes about Hans Heinrich Neff

Note 1: .A2 Hans Heinrich NEFF was born about 1682 probably in Dühren, Germany. Hans Heinrich died April 1745 in Lancaster Co., PA, Lancaster Twp. He married (1) ____ about 1704 in the area of Dühren or Bonfeld Germany. There are 5 known children of Hans Heinrich NEFF and ____ (see Generation 2). Before 1739 he married (2) Franca _____ who was the stepmother of his 4 surviving children in 1745. She was probably the widow of Heinrich Funk who died in 1735.

This Neff family immigrated from Bonfeld, Germany in 1717 with his brother and family. Bonfeld is a town about 10 miles east of Dühren. They left Bonfeld on 23 May 1717 with the families of Heinrich Funk and his son Martin Funk. They were listed as Anabaptist. This Bonfeld Church record does not give the first names of the Neff brothers. But the Pennsylvania records of 1717 and 1718 show that the Neffs associated with these Funk families were Hans Heinrich A2-Line and Jacob Neff D-Line. Heinrich Funk and Hans Heinrich Neff settled next to each other on the Conestoga River in Lancaster, Twp. Jacob Neff D-Line and Martin Funk (son of Heinrich Funk) settled in Coventry Twp. Chester Co. PA. (See the D-Line) These Neff and Funk families must have been closely related because the children did not intermarry. We do know that the great grandparents of Heinrich Funk were Jacob Funk married to Anna Neff from Ober Mettmenstetten in the Knonau District of Canton Zurich, Switzerland. But this marriage would not have prevented intermarriage of these Neff and Funk families in PA.

Recent research has proven that Dr. Francis Neff and family came in 1719 and was not one of the Neff brothers that immigrated from Bonfeld in 1717. See A1 Dr. Francis Neff concerning his relationship to Dr. Hans Heinrich Neff A2 and see the D-Line for more on Jacob Neff’s family.
