Johannes Steger In the burial records of Salem Luthern Church in Lebanon County, Pa., on page 29, is the obituary of Johannes Steger, who died " July 24, 1802, Age 53 years, 5 months, 5 days. The Son of Adam Steger and wife Catherine, born January 30, 1749 in Lebanon Township. Baptised and confirmed as member of the Reformed Church. On April 1, 1777 he married Elizabeth (Nee) Steger. He had 8 Children, four sons and three daughters survie. He Died of Sickness, and an infected hand and then apoplexy. The record of their marriage is at Falkner Swamp Reformed Church, which is in Montgomery County. This marriae took place one week before his brother Jacob married a Catherine (nee) Steger, who could have been the Sister of Elizabeth. Elizabeth's Obituary is also at Salem Luthern Church. It reads: "Elizabeth Steger, daughter of Peter and wife, born March 21, 1749, baptized and confirmed. Had 7 children, four sons and two daughters survive. Died August 1808, age 59 years, 5 months, 27 days." If the Peter mentioned above was the brother of John Adam Steger, then Elizabeth would have to have been from a marriage prior to Peter's union with Johanna Lendwin ( see section on Peter Steger ). We found no records of any other Peter Stager/Steger during that time period - although there are lots of records not checked plus lots of missing records. Then there is a discrepancy over the number of children this couple had. They had at least four sons and three daughters, but since we were only able to find records for six of the children, we do not know the name of the last girl, or the sex of the eighth child, if there were eight children. Five of the children were baptized at Tabor First Reformed Church in Lebanon, and the sixth at Schaefferstown. Very possibly there was at least one or maybe two children born between Johannes and Henry. This means that Elizabeth was widowed with some minor children still at home, and they were just barely of age when they were orphaned. There should be some records in the orphans courts or probate records on this family. They were not found in Lancaster County. A thorough search of these records in Dauphin County, showed that probate records for Johannes were filed there and that Jacob was named administrator at one time: later that was changed. However, the envelope that should have contained the records was empty when Kelly Williams checked it in 1981.
