      Deceased Name: Clarence Irey Medlin
      ROANOKE RAPIDS - Mr. Clarence Irey Medlin, 81, of Roanoke Rapids, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2007, at Halifax Regional Medical Center in Roanoke Rapids.

      Clarence was born Dec. 23, 1925, to the late William Paul Medlin and Lula Peace Medlin. He graduated from Roanoke Rapids High School and served in the United States Army during World War II. Mr. Medlin was retired from Champion Paper Co. with 41 years of service and was a former Pace Union president for 15 years. He was also a former business owner in Roanoke Rapids. Mr. Medlin was a member of First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Bernard Medlin and Julian Woodrow "Monk" Medlin.

      He is survived by his wife of over 59 years, Mildred V. Medlin; his children, Michael Medlin and his wife, Belinda, Cynthia Medlin Fowler and her husband, Doug, and Keith Medlin and his wife, Marty; his grandchildren, Stacie and David Shearin, Brandon Medlin and Dixie Howell, Jonathan and Erica Medlin, Allison Medlin, Christopher Medlin, Blythe and Patrick Hogeboom, William and Paula Fowler, Todd Fowler, Will Cox, Justin Medlin, Ryan Medlin and Noah Medlin; his great-grandchildren, Hudson Howell, Savannah Grace Medlin, Chase Hogeboom, Austin Hogeboom, Owen Hogeboom, Kyle Fowler and Evan Fowler; his brother, Thomas Medlin and his wife, Frances, of Roanoke Rapids; his sister-in-law, Tivie Medlin of Roanoke Rapids; and special nieces and nephews.

      Askew Funeral & Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids is handling the arrangements, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m., today, Feb. 16.

      Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 17, at First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Rick Gaskins officiating. Interment will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.

      The flag in front of the funeral home flies at half staff in honor of Mr. Medlin's service to his country.
