Edith P. Hunt Whitten, 95, of Marianna passed away Monday, July 19, 2004, at the Marianna Convalescent Center. She was born on December 15, 1908 in Bristol to John and Annie Hunt. She moved to Jackson County at an early age before moving to Jacksonville. In 1980 the devout Christian moved back to Jackson County. She was a member of Eastside Baptist church, loved to quilt, was a welder on ships during WWII, and for the last fourteen years of her husband's life, she was his caretaker.
Edith Whitten was preceded in death by her husband Homer Lee Whitten; her parents, John and Annie Hunt; her brother, Ed Hunt; one sister-in-law, Lucille Hunt; and one niece Joann Hunt.
Survivors include one niece, Polly Hunt Richards and husband Junior of Marianna; one nephew, Edward Earl "Jaybird" Hunt of Marianna; one great-nephew, Mark Junior Richards of Marianna; one great-niece, Jennie Dean and husband Gary of Marianna; two great-great nephews, Mark Junior Richards II and Josh Dean; one foster nephew, Lonnie Scott Walker and wife Sandi of Jacksonville; her extended family, Estelle Richards, Estelle White, as well as Conrad White and wife Crystal and daughter Coral.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 22, at Lord Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Canada officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Baptist Cemetery with Lord Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services, from 10 a.m. until service time.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Eastside Baptist Church.
The family would also like to send out a very heart felt thank you to Dr. Glenn Padgett and all of his staff for everything you have done.
Lord Funeral Home is in charge of these arrangements.
