Birth: 18 AUG 1849 in Salem, SC
Death: 26 SEP 1914 in Oconee County, SC
Note: Buried in the Whitmire Cemetary in Salem, SC (Oconee County). James "Jim" married Naomi Davis on January 8, 1874. Naomi's father gave them land and a log cabin on what is now known as Talley Road, just a few miles above the Alexander Cemetary and Little River Baptist Church. The log cabin was one room, but Thomas Davis added other rooms as they were needed to make a dog-trot house for a growing family. They were Methodists and attended Whitmire Methodist Church where they are both buried on a hill across the road from the church. Jim was a farmer, a postmaster and a road commisioner. According to the local paper on the 1906 elections: "James L. Talley of Little River was elected County Commisioner, responsible for the condition of roads and bridges in Keowee, Whitewater and Chattooga Townships." (p27) He also wrote for the Keowee Courier, was a US Census Enumerator in 1910 and belonged to the Woodmen of the World.
