Bula Hendrickson
MERRIAM - Bula Henson Hendrickson, 97, of Merriam, formerly of Wellington and Winfield, died Dec. 15, 1999, at Shawnn Gardens Nursing Center.
Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday in Highland Cemetery at Winfield.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hawks Funeral Home, Wellington.
A memorial has been established with the First United Methodist Church of Wellington. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.
Hendrickson was born Nov. 5, 1902, in Cane Creek, Mo., to Riley and Della Photine (Smith) Henson. After graduating from high school, she was a reporter for the Daily American Republic in Poplar Bluff, Mo.
On Feb. 18, 1928, she married Clyde Houston Hendrickson in Fredricktown, Mo.
During World War II, she was an agricultural extension instructor, teaching food processing techniques. The Hendricksons lived in various Missouri and Arkansas towns before moving to Winfield in 1944. In 1955 they moved to Wellington. She operated Bula's Ceramics and, along with her husband, Hendrickson Tax Service.
Her husband died July 5, 1986. Hendrickson moved to Merriam in 1992.
She was a past worthy matron of the Order of Eastern Star in Poplar Bluff and past district director of Kansas Business and Professional Women, as well as a member of numerous social clubs and organizations.
Survivors include a son, Marshall David Hendrickson, Merriam; a brother, Hardin O. Witte, Poplar Bluff, Mo.; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
