  • Alternative names: John Clough, Jonathan Clough
  • He was born on November 23, 1783 in Preswitch Cum Oldham, Manchester, Lancashire, England.Source 5
I believed (from other trees) that this was John from 1791, but the 1850 Census lists this age/ birth date as 1783 and lists the correct family members so the 1791 John Clough cannot be him.
  • Alternative: He was born on November 25, 1791 in Preswitch Cum Oldham, Lancashire, England.Sources 5, 12
This date is one which would make John a progenitor of the person in the John Clough genealogical society. But I do not see that our John Clough is him because the 1850 census lists the family members correctly and the date of birth as 1783
  • Alternative: He was born on November 23, 1783 in Preswitch Cum Oldham, Lancashire, England.Source 5
The 1850 Census - and also baptism records, make me believe the parents are Hannah and John, not Thomas and Mary. However, I have left Thomas as a link in the tree under "web links." It does not change the tree much.
  • He was baptized on November 30, 1783 in St. Mary's, Oldham, Lancashire, England.Sources 4, 14, 17
  • Profession: in the year 1850 Dyeing and Finishing Textiles, Except Knit Goods in New York Ward 16 District 1, New York, New York, Verenigde Staten.
  • Resident:
  • (Arrival) about 1842 in New York, New York, Verenigde Staten: The rest of the family came on 6 Oct 1845 but the log does not show Jonathan or Richard. They must have preceded them?.
  • He died on July 2, 1854 in Remsen, Oneida, New York, USA, he was 70 years old.
Why can't we find any record of this death or burial?
  • A child of Jonathan Clough and Hannah Whitehead
