Worked in cement when he first immigrated (1923), in 1927 he began towork for a Burial Fund, named Zelf Hulp. In about 1939 the Burial Fundbecame a Life Insurance Company known as Self Help Insurance. In 1962 the name was changed to National Heritage Life Insurance Company. In 1978 the company merged with Thomas Jefferson Insurance Company. Elmerstayed with the company as a salesman throughout all these changes.Because of the intermarrying that went on in his ancestry on both hisfather & mother's side, his father is also his 2nd cousin once removed,8th cousin once removed.
