Notes about Jan Breukel

Jan en zijn vrouw Maria verbleven van 1 november 1818 tot medio 1820 in de proefkolonie Frederiksoord van de maatschappij van Weldadigheid.
Het gezin wordt door de directie beschouwd als 'van een zeer slegt zedelijk gedrag', waarbij de schuld vooral gelegd wordt bij de vrouw en oudste dochters. Als hij in 1820 een brief heeft geschreven, of beter: heeft laten schrijven, met klachten over de kolonie, wordt hij naar huis teruggestuurd.
Over de eerste kolonisten in Frederiksoord is door Wil Schackmann het boek 'de Proefkolonie' geschreven.
