Notes about Hendrik Heuck

Voornaam ook geschreven als RIJK. Hendrik Heuck was handelaar, afkomstig uit Roermond, maar moest vanwege zijn protestante geloof vluchten naar Nijmegen. Hier werd hij in 1618 burgemeester. In een akte van 22 juni 1632: "Lubbert van Vinceler, burger van Nijmegen, bij dode van Rijk Hueck, burgemeester van Nijmegen." In de Nijmeegse archieven is nog oudere informatiete vinden over de familie Heuck:
1520: Johan Hasert Hendriksz., 65 fol. 82. Deze Johan was wellicht de grootvader van Hendrick?
27-4-1560: Hendrik Hueck bij overdracht door Johan Hasert, 61 fol. 1v, 62 fol. 3v. Een erfenis?

Zijn eerste zoon, Jan, vertrok met de eerste kolonisten naar Nieuw-Amsterdam (New York), en stichtte daar een groot landgoed ten noorden van de stad. Hij was daarvoor al gemeentesecretaris geweest van Oss. Jan heeft de eerste notulen en historie geschreven van de stad Nieuw-Amsterdam, en is daarom een beroemd man in de Amerikaanse geschiedenis.

Rijk was rond 1612 getrouwd met Elisabeth Schimmelpennninck, weduwe van Bernard de Jeger. Zij overleed echter al voor 1622. De naam van zijn vrouw, en de moeder van zoon Hendrick, is niet bekend.
