Notes about Graaf Floris Ii "De Vette" van Holland

Floris II werd vanwege zijn zwaarlijvigheid "de Vette", genoemd.
Petronilla van Saksen, ook bekend als Geertruid, en ook wel Petronella van Saksen genoemd, was een dochter van Diederik van Opper-Lotharingen en Hedwig van Formbach. Uit een eerder huwelijk van Hedwig met Gebhard van Supplingenberg werd de latere keizer Lotharius III geboren, waarmee Petronilla dus een machtige halfbroer had.

Zij trouwde rond 1100 met graaf Floris II. Mogelijk liet zij toen haar naam veranderen naar Petronilla. Na de vroege dood van haar man in 1122 voerde zij het regentschap voor haar zoon, graaf Dirk VI. Zij steunde de eerste opstand van haar jongere zoon Floris de Zwarte tegen Dirk VI van 1129 tot 1131, maar deed dat niet tijdens diens tweede opstand.

Een derde zoon, Simon, werd kanunnik in Utrecht.
De moeder van Floris' dochter Hadewijch is niet bekend, maar wel de naam van zijn tweede vrouw, Petronella van Opper-Lotharingen.
