ALIA Hugues /de Vermandois/, Hugues le Grand
Was one of the four principal princes who lead the first crusade
he succeeded his fathr in law as earl of Vermandois.
He desserted the crusader army during the siege of Antiochia june 1098 and went home at the end of august 1098.
After the success of the first crusade he was covered with shame and to repend he participated in the next crusade.
He was wounded at the banks of the river Halys and finally died in Tarsus in C.ilicia
