Notes about Rutgerus "Gerardus" Waterschoot
Gedoopt als "Rutgerus", in huwelijks afkondiging te Rupelmonde 8-1692 genaamd "Reygerius", informatie via W. Mandigers van H. de Greef, te Brussel bij huwelijk te Oerle en doop van zijn kinderen te Wintelre genaamd "Gerardus".
Z.v. Petrus Waterschoot (* 17-4-1645 en + 29-9-1704 te Rupelmonde) en Anna de Hont (+ 24-3-1689 te Rupelmonde). Ouders gehuwd 14-4-1664 te Rupelmonde.
Bij overlijden van zijn zoon Jan in 1702 wordt van hem vermeld dat hij voorzanger is in de kerk.
Het geslacht Waterschoot komt oorspronkelijk uit België en wel uit de buurt van Dendermonde. Daar ga ik op deze pagina niet verder op in, aangezien anderen - met name de Belgische Waterschoten, op dit gebied al veel eerder uitvoerig hebben gepubliceerd. De Belgische Waterschoten hebben hun publicaties (nog) niet op het internet gezet en de familie gaat zo ver in de tijd terug, dat de diverse genealogen in België die zich met de familie Waterschoot bezig houden geen gemeenschappelijke voorouder hebben kunnen vinden.
De oorsprong van de Nederlandse tak van de familie Waterschoot ligt in Oerle en Hoogeloon. In het najaar van 1692 trouwde een zekere Rutgerus Waterschoot, afkomstig uit Rupelmonde (België) te Oerle met Barbara Essens, dochter van Jacobus Essens, of Eijssens.

De familie komt uit België, uit Rupelmonde. Dit is een plaats aan de Schelde waar de rivier de Rupel de Schelde instroomt. Daar komt zeer waarschijnlijk ook de naam van. Het begin van de rivier, schoot van het water: Waterschoot.
