Nadat Marie Elisabeth de Brouwer op 14 april 1898 in een put verdronken was, en broer Willem de Brouwer, (alias Willem de kas) trouwde met Dien Soffers, bleef vrijgezel Jan de Brouwer, landbouwer en bestuurslid van het burgerlijk armbestuur, alleen op de boerderij wonen, tot in 1917 zijn neef Sjef de Brouwer trouwde met Jans Vromans uit Tilburg en het bedrijf overnam.
