    Vianen en Beyeren, totaal 2033 gemet land35, werd in 1726 ingeschreven aan de universiteit Utrecht, studeerde aldaar 13 maart 1727 af 36, verkreeg 8 augustus 1728 een
    meerderjarigheidsverklaring van de Staten van Zeeland37, erfde 25 september 1730 van zijn broer Johan de ambachten Nieuwerkerk, Capelle en Botland38, raad 20 april 1726, schepen 1732-1733 en burgemeester 1738-1739, 1747-1748, 1750-1751, 1753-1754 en 1756-1757 van
    Vlissingen, bewoonde aldaar het huis tegenover de Roode Brug, geërfd van zijn ouders. Als eerste burgemeester overhandigde Jacob aan stadhouder Willem IV, bij diens inhuldiging als erfheer van Vlissingen op 5 juni 1751, de sleutels van de stad. Ter gelegenheid van dat feest
    werd ‘s avonds zijn huis ‘geïllumineerd’39. Hij was bewindhebber van de V.O.C. vanaf 1737, verkreeg op 24 januari 1762 een klein deel van de ambachtsheerlijkheid van Zoutelande en op
    24 juni 1762 het ambacht St. Janskerke (Walcheren), beide afkomstig uit de nalatenschap van zijn achternicht Johanna Thijssen. Jacob erfde het landhuis Der Boede te Koudekerke en gaf
    kort na de verwoesting door brand opdracht het buiten te herbouwen. Hij werd in Vlissingen aangeslagen voor 8 pond vlaams voor het employeren van 8 dienstboden en 16-13-4 pond vlaams voor het bezit van een koets met 4 paarden, woonde vanaf ca. 1766 in Middelburg, werd ook daar aangeslagen voor 8 dienstboden en de koets, zijn huis in Vlissingen hield hij
    aan43, werd 10 oktober 1767 door de raad van Vlissingen benoemd in het ambt van ambachtsheer van Koudekerke, maakte tezamen met zijn vrouw 12 september 1772 een testament op de langstlevende
