Notes about Hendrik Timmer

Circa 1921 koopt Jan Timmer de vader van Henk Timmer de in 1915 gebouwde dorpscafe annex kruidenierswinkel ('t Loo) aan de Hoofdweg 201 te Taarloo. Vanaf 1924 is Henk hiervan de beheerder. Hij ventte tevens met paard en wagen in het dorp. Ook werd een hondenkar ingezet voor het boerenwerk, bijvoorbeeld bij het vervoer van melk. Naast de vergaderingen van de
Boermarke (vanaf 1926) en landbouwvereniging was er in het café ook jaarlijks het zomerfeest. Ook werden er hier kalver- en trekhondenkeuringen gehouden. In de beginjaren had Henk een waag voor het wegen van varkens. In de vergadering van de Boermarke op 31 januari 1931 wordt besloten dat hij na een jaar het recht heeft de waag voor de kostprijs over te nemen. In de vergadering van deze boerenorganisatie van 25 januari 1935 klaagde de waagmeester-caféhouder dat er door de aanwezigen weinig verteerd wordt. Hij wil de helft van het waaggeld in 1934/1935. Besloten wordt hiermee in te stemmen onder de voorwaarde dat Henk Timmer de gewichten gratis in Vries laat herijken. Hij bleek gevoelig voor de lokroep van de NSB en werd door het Bijzonder Gerechtshof in Assen op 28 november 1946 veroordeeld tot vier jaar detentie (eis was acht jaar), ontzetting uit de kiesrechten en het beroep als caféhouder. De oplegde straf had vooral te maken met zijn optreden als landwachter bij controle- en bewakingsdiensten, huiszoekingen en razzias. Het Asser Tribunaal veroordeelde hem op 18 november 1947 vanwege het lidmaatschap van de NSB bovendien tot het betalen van een boete van 3.000 gulden (Provinciale Drentsche en Asser Courant van 15 en 29 november 1946 en 10 en 19 november 1947).
Ook zijn destijds 20-jarige dochter Roeloffien belandde in 1944 bij de NSB.
Op 30 mei 1946 wees het Asser Tribunaal haar directe invrijheidstelling van de hand (Provinciale Drentsche en Asser Courant van 31 mei 1946). In 1952 verhuist Henk Timmer naar een boerderij op de es, Hoofdweg 204 te Taarloo. Dit is de boerderij waar vroeger zijn vader woonde. Tot zijn dood in 1970 wonen Henk en zijn vrouw Maria Nijborg in deze boerderij.
