    Otto I, bijgenaamd het Kind (1204 - Lüneburg, 9 juni 1252), was de eerste hertog van Brunswijk en Lüneburg 1235 - 1252 en behoorde tot de familie der Welfen. Brunswijk behoorde aanvankelijk tot de allodiale goederen van het huis der Welfen. Keizer Frederik II verenigde het in 1235 met Lüneburg en beleende het als hertogdom Brunswijk-Lüneburg aan Otto, kleinzoon van Hendrik de Leeuw en zoon van Willem van Lüneburg en Helena van Denemarken. Hij was in 1228 gehuwd met Mechtildis van Brandenburg (-1261), dochter van Albrecht II van Brandenburg, en werd vader van:
    - Mathildis, in 1245 gehuwd met graaf Hendrik II van Anhalt (1215-1266), nadien abdis in Gernrode
    - Helena (-1273), in 1239 gehuwd met landgraaf Herman II van Thüringen (-1241) en met Albrecht I van Saksen (-1261)
    - Otto (-1247)
    - Elisabeth (-1266), die in 1252 huwde met graaf Willem II van Holland (1227-1256)
    - Albrecht (1236-1279)
    - Johan (-1277)
    - Otto (-1279), bisschop van Hildesheim
    - Koenraad (-1300), bisschop van Verden
