de Koningin der Nederlanden (30 april 1980 - 30 april 2013), Prinses van Lippe-Biesterfeld , Jonkvrouw van Amsberg , Prinses van Oranje-Nassau.

Koningin Beatrix regeert van 1980 tot 2013. Na haar aankondiging van haar aftreden kenschetst minister-president Rutte haar in een toespraak als een 'alom gerespecteerde Koningin met een buitengewone inzet en grote kennis en betrokkenheid'.
Aan het eind van haar regeerperiode verandert de rol van de Koning(in) in het formatieproces. Sinds eind maart 2012 neemt niet meer de Koning(in), maar de Tweede Kamer het voortouw in het (in)formatieproces. De Grondwet bepaalt overigens dat de Koning ministers en staatssecretarissen benoemt en ontslaat bij Koninklijk Besluit, mede ondertekend door de minister-president, en dat zij ten overstaan van de Koning worden beëdigd. Op grond van die grondwettelijke rol en op verzoek van de Tweede Kamer, kan de Koning bij kabinets(in)formaties nog steeds regelmatig geïnformeerd worden over de gang van zaken. Bij de kabinetsformatie na de verkiezingen in 2012 was voor het eerst sprake van dit gewijzigde formatieproces.

In 1966 trouwt Prinses Beatrix met de Duitse diplomaat Claus von Amsberg. Zij krijgen drie zonen, Willem-Alexander (1967), Johan Friso (1968-2013) en Constantijn (1969). Prins Claus overlijdt op 6 oktober 2002. Het gezin leeft vanaf 1981 in Paleis Huis ten Bosch. Koningin Beatrix gebruikt Paleis Noordeinde als werkpaleis. Na haar aftreden verhuist zij terug naar Kasteel Drakensteyn in Lage Vuursche, waar zij ook voor 1981 woonde.
