Obituary

Houseman, Rica 11/8/1918 - 5/20/2017 Byron Center Rica Houseman, age 98, went home to be with her Lord, Saturday, May 20, 2017. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cornelius "Neil" Houseman; her sisters Labertha Bruininks, Myna Wingelaar, Grace VanAndel; her brothers Peter, John, Renn, Ben, Lambert, and Henry VanAndel; several brothers- and sisters-in-law; her grandson, Eric Houseman; grandson-in-law, Dale Berkompas; granddaughter-in-law, Sara Houseman. Rica will be lovingly remembered by her children Louis and Virginia Houseman, Faith and Roger Miedema, Burton and Bonnie Houseman, Paul Houseman, James and Ruth Houseman, Harold and Carol Houseman, Rita and John Wychers, Randy and Karen Houseman, Bryan and Ronda Houseman; her 50 grandchildren; 96 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; her special nieces and nephews Bert VanAndel, Jr., Sharon and Dave Hast, Kris VanAndel; her sister, Dorothy DeYoung; her brother- and sisters-in-law Ott VanAndel, Mickey VanAndel, June Klanderman, Marge Houseman, Jean Lindell, Daniel and Joanne Houseman; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. The family would like to extend their thanks to the staff at Railside Living Center for their compassionate care. Rica was a faithful prayer warrior and Bible reader. She loved working in her flower garden and baking bread. Rica taught Sunday School and was a member of the quilting group and choir at church. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 23, 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 24, at Cook Funeral Home in Byron Center, 2067 84th St. SW. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, May 25 at Corinth Reformed Church, 129 100th St. SE in Byron Center. Pastor Jay Sowers will officiate. Interment will be at Winchester Cemetery. In honor of Rica, contributions may be made to Corinth Reformed Church - Quilting Group. The family welcomes memories and messages in their guestbook online
