    Ten westen vloeit de Grote AA, die de scheiding vormt met Wuustwezel en het oostelijk deel wordt doorsneden door de E-19. De bebouwde kom ligt in het westen. Loenhout behoort sinds 01.01.1977 tot de gemeente Wuustwezel.

    De oorsprong van het dorp is Frankisch. De eigenlijke ontginning werd echter pas ingezet onder keizerin Maria Theresia. Loenhout was van oudsher een landbouwdorp en is dit tot op heden gebleven met weiland, voedergewassenteelt, een weinig tuinbouw en een sterk ontwikkelde pluimvee- en varkensteelt.

    De dorpskern van Loenhout, de Huffel geheten, bestaat eigenlijk uit twee centra. Het ene wordt gevormd door het kerkplein, het andere is van oorsprong een echte Frankische driehoek en ligt ten noorden van het kerkplein. Het tweede plein heet nu de Oude Dorpsstraat, maar werd voorheen "de Plaetse" genoemd. Aan dit plein staan enkele fraaie oude huizen, vanouds bekend als de "Elsackerhuizen". De oudste bebouwing treft men aan rond de Oude Dorpsstraat (met o.a. het Schalienhuis en de Secretarishoeve) en de oude verbindingsweg Wuustwezel - Hoogstraten (met de parochiekerk, de St Quirinuskapel, de pastorie en de tiendschuur).
