Jan Ferla is hoogstwaarschijnlijk de vader van Adam Farla. Zijn naam is de eerste Ferla die je tegenkomt in de archieven van Zevenbergen (Verpondingsboek 1717-1718). Hij is getuige bij de doop van zijn oudste kleinzoon.

Er is een mogelijke link met het (destijds Spaanse koningrijk van Aragon) huidige Italiaanse dorp Ferla op Sicilië. In die tijd vestigden zich Spaanse soldaten in de Nederlanden die als huurlingen met het leger meegekomen waren. Het front van de Spaanse invasie stopte bij Breda. Het is niet ondenkbaar dat ene Ferla een van deze soldaten of iemand in hun gevolg geweest is.
